Biography

 

Creating comfortable surroundings is Ann Joy Becker's goal as a Decor & You® professional interior decorator. She promises that not only will the end result be comfortable, but so will the process. She sets the tone early, and brings coffee or another beverage to the first meeting - just the way the client likes it. Without fail, she says, the client always offers to make the coffee, but Ann Joy persists, "This is all about you!" Ann Joy believes that décor, above all, needs to be personal. "Interiors should be stylish and comfortable but they should reflect my client's individual personality," she adds.


A Down-to-earth Design Leader

 

Ann Joy says that what is important about Decor & You® is that our decorators see every project through, from plan to delivery, every step of the way, with vigilance on follow up and excellent customer service. "Our clients are not just a number on an invoice in a stack," notes Ann Joy. She knows the difference. With a degree in business management from Queensborough Community College in New York, Ann Joy held management positions with a number of top retailers, but something was missing. Ann Joy's creativity and her drive to make a difference led her into the design industry, and today, she says, "It's an honor to be able to make someone's home more beautiful and comfortable." She works one-on-one with each client in their home or office to clearly understand their personal style, goals and expectations for decorating or redecorating a space. "I'm from the Bronx, a down-to-earth, nurturing person who values every client equally - the ones with $1,000 to invest and those with $100,000."

 

As a designer, one of Ann Joy's strengths is making sense of color. She takes lifestyle, age and other essentials into account to recommend a color palette that each client will love. Green is a vital color today, Ann Joy notes, "It's becoming popular in our new environmentally-conscious culture, and it's also a healing, nurturing color, which makes it ideal for aging boomers and Remember: "YOU DON'T NEED TO START BIG, YOU JUST NEED TO START!"

  • Graduated from the nationally CID-certified Decor & You Professional Education Program, located in the hills of western Connecticut. Design training emphasizes advanced principles of lighting, color, texture, pattern, scale and balance, and is led by a team of expert instructors in the areas of interior design, window treatments, and sales management.
  • Routinely consults with Mary Gilliatt, who is an exclusive advisor to Decor & You in the U.S. and one of the world's leading authorities in design. Mary has authored nearly 40 books and her design portfolio is a who's who of British royalty and international celebrities.
  • Active supporter & Committee Member of The Howell Branch Cancer Society. A Member of the NGL Chamber of Commerce, Jackson Chamber of Commerce. A supporter of the ASPCA, Volunteer Auxilary for Dogs and Cats, St. Jude Hospital, Haddassah Womans Group, Provincetown Womans Group, and Feed the Children Foundation.
